sapphire X1950Pro Review and Thermal grease changing guide

Here we go the my personal review of the X1950pro.
Just to let you Know I have in no way been paid or compensated for this review so it should be unbiased

I would say that this not a bad OC for a card with stock cooling 50Mhz on the core an 27Mhz on the ram and the Idle and load temps only rose 2C, but we also only got a 200 point increase in 3d mark not huge but better than nothing considering Ocing is free.

I would say the overall performance is not to bad for a $150 graphics card it beats out handily the newer and similarly price 2600 and 8600 series cards.
Now to change the thermal grease in hopes of decreasing the core temp and increasing the overclock. First w e have to remove stock heatsink the card should now look something like this.

Now sapphire's thermal grease application looks pretty good so I am not expecting stellar results from changing thermal grease time but it is worth just to tinker with the card. Anyway we need to use something to remove the old thermal paste alcohol works well but as I go into to shock when I come into contact with it I will be using arctic silver's grease removing compound pictured below because it is less toxic to me.
After using this your core and heatsink should look something like this.
You will also notice how thick thermal pads are for the ram they aren't doing much but you should leave them in place. Because they are a least providing some heat conduction from the ram to heatsink. You now need to inoculate your heatsink by applying some thermal grease to it with soft link free cloth, for thermal grease I recommend Artic Ceramique or later products from arctic silver. A small amount should be rubbed into where the core will contact the heatsink, you will then need to wipe off the excess compound you heatsink should have slightly hazy look to it. You will now need to apply thermal grease to the core of your graphics card, I recommend using an old plastic ID or a razor blade. Your core should only need a pea sized amount less of Thermal interface material. You will need to spread the thermal interface material in a smooth even layer across the glassy part of the core. One you have done your core should look something like this.
Now you need to reinstall your stock heatsink, once you have reinstalled you stock heatsink, and put your graphics card back in your computer. You will need to boot up and check your temps. they should be the same if not better if they are higher by significant amount 5C or more make sure that you correctly reinstalled your heatsink. In my case when I put my card back I did not notice any change in the Idle and load temps what so ever, but I expected as the oem thermal grease on the card was done pretty well. I am hoping for a temp decrease though as my new thermal grease application progress through its burn in period. to any one who is thinking about doing this it is always worth if for nothing else than to tinker with something.

I am so tired of the of the government passing laws with out the peoples consent or best interest at heart. these laws are made because the influence of large corporations with deep pocket throwing money at politicians via lobbyist for there own self serving interest. for instance a person is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty but the media and powerful lawyers have taken it upon themselves to convict the defendants in these cases before they even have their foot in the court house, and if they wrong what apology do we hear if any a half hearted one liner at the end of a news cast at mid-night. Where are the laws that are supposed to protect the people of this country, I will tell you they have been laid waste by large corporations and greedy politicians. One the worst things done has been the patriot act it also them to hold anyone at any time for an unlimited amount of time , under the suspicion of terrorism with out having to give the person a real reason. This sounds a whole lot like the secret police, in china, the Gestapo of Germany, and the original religious and political persecution that we came this country to escape. what I am saying America is; isn't about time that we stood up as we did in the sixties and seventies. It is time stand up once again as we did then resist these power that threaten the freedoms we hold dear before are ability resist is legislated out of existence, this my call to action to everyone a peaceful resistance so that we may all continue to enjoy the freedoms we hold so dear.
